A saliva biosensor to add to your scan
Place a single drop of saliva on a disposable test strip, photograph it in the app, and Lumina reads its colour response alongside your tongue scan โ adding hydration, pH, and inflammation signals in about a minute.
A screening aid only โ the biosensor does not diagnose disease.
Three signals from one drop
The strip uses colour-changing pads that respond to what's already present in saliva. Lumina reads those colours consistently and pairs them with your other inputs.
Hydration
Salivary flow and osmolarity shift with hydration. The strip flags likely dehydration so you can rebalance before it affects how you feel.
Oral pH
A persistently acidic reading can accompany oral and dietary changes. Lumina notes the trend and suggests when a dental visit may be worthwhile.
Inflammation marker
A general inflammation pad offers a coarse, non-specific signal. On its own it means little โ combined with your scan and symptoms, it helps decide whether to retest or seek care.
How a reading works
-
1
Collect a drop
Touch the strip to your tongue or collect a small amount of saliva. No lancets, no blood โ the test is entirely non-invasive.
-
2
Photograph the strip
A framing guide and colour reference card help the app read each pad accurately, correcting for your phone's lighting.
-
3
Combine with your scan
Biosensor values join your tongue scan, symptoms, and wearable trends โ producing calibrated likelihoods, never a diagnosis.
-
4
Read clear guidance
As with every Lumina result, you finish with one plain action: keep monitoring, retest soon, book a test, or seek care now.
Honest about what a strip can do
Colour-changing saliva strips are real and useful for coarse screening. They are not lab assays, and we say so plainly.
Feasible today
- Coarse hydration and pH readings from colour response
- A non-specific inflammation flag as one input among several
- Tracking trends across repeat readings over time
Not feasible yet
- Detecting specific pathogens or diseases from a strip
- Reading hormones or genetics without a laboratory
- Replacing a physician-ordered saliva or blood test
